From King Ranch to Adjust NRV: Betsy's Journey of Motion and Wellness

For the majority of her 70 years Betsy has been on the go, go, go! She’s been here, there, a little bit over everywhere. She was born and raised in Texas and then moved to Virginia in the 3rd grade. Both of her parents were educators and both of them lived long and full lives. Her father lived well into his 90s and her mother is still living at 92. Needless to say, good genes run in their family!

A Passion for Horses

As a young girl, Betsy would help train wild horses alongside her father, who worked with horses at the King Ranch. She would ride bareback and on multiple occasions she was thrown from a horse while helping to train. Since she was an only child, she often had sleepovers in the barn stalls with her horses as they were the siblings she didn’t have. Horses have always been a passion of Betsy’s and she has passed that love down to her daughter. They collectively worked to rescue horses from racetracks and help rehabilitate them.

A Career on the go!

Betsy’s parents ensured she was given many opportunities to further her education, which helped set her up for a successful career.. She spent 33 years working for a company based out of Chicago selling hospital medical products. The nature of her job required consistent travel to various hospitals around the country in order to sell them the latest and greatest medical products. So Betsy is oh so familiar with planes, trains and automobiles. While Betsy absolutely loved what she did, she was more than happy to retire at theage of 59 and take a step away from all of the hustle and bustle of the business. But don’t be fooled by her retirement, she is still living full and fun days. She spends a lot of her time taking care of loved ones and traveling back to Knoxville to visit her daughter and grandkids.

Chiropractic as a Key Wellness Component

Between her love of horses, and time spent riding them, and her busy day-to-day job, Betsy had a litany of reasons that resulted in her seeking out chiropractic care. When living in Knoxville with her family, she had a phenomenal chiropractor that she says was able to do the “million dollar move” to help those with hip dysplasia. She mentioned she found it difficult to find a chiropractor who was willing to do such work, but once she did, she was able to walk without the pain she constantly had. In 2021, Betsy moved to Roanoke and was in search of a new chiropractor. With the help of a close friend, she was encouraged to visit Dr. Skinner at his previous location. She was beyond excited to find out he could also do the “million dollar move” to help her with her hips. From the first visit she had with Dr. Skinner, she knew he was the one! He was able to continue providing her with the adjustments and treatment her body needed to stay active and pain free.

Welcoming Betsy to Adjust NRV!

When Betsy heard the news that Dr. Skinner would be joining Adjust NRV in Blacksburg, she had zero hesitation about traveling the 1.5 hour round trip to our office. She is thrilled he has joined Dr. Brooke and our team. She has even commented that it is crazy how alike Dr. Skinner and Dr. Brooke are! In her opinion, they both have the same mindset – good quality care, family focused, and they are efficient. Betsy believes that being on the go is what keeps you on the go (which you know we love!). She loves adventure, learning new things, and meeting new people. With the support of Dr. Skinner, she’s not planning on slowing down any time soon.
