Reaching 5Q at Lane Stadium

There’s something special about setting a goal that seems a little out of reach—and then taking it one step at a time.

For many in the New River Valley, Virginia Tech’s campus is more than a place to attend class or cheer on the Hokies. It’s a place filled with challenges, traditions, and opportunities to push yourself. And if you’ve ever taken on the stairs at Lane Stadium, you know they can provide quite the workout.

The iconic Lane Stadium stairs have even been incorporated into Virginia Tech Recreational Sports events, including the university’s Toughest Hokie obstacle course.

So what does it take to make it to the top?

Consistency. Preparation. Movement. And a body that you’re taking care of along the way.

The Challenge of the Climb

Running stairs is a demanding form of exercise. With every step, your body has to coordinate your feet, ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and spine while your cardiovascular system works harder to keep up.

Stair running also requires repeated loading through the lower body. Your muscles have to produce force to propel you upward while your joints absorb and transfer that force.

That makes the goal about more than simply having enough endurance to reach the top.

It’s about building a body that can move well enough to meet the challenge.

And that is where a thoughtful approach to chiropractic care can become part of your overall wellness routine.

Chiropractic Care and Your Movement

Chiropractic care is often associated with back or neck discomfort, but chiropractic is so much more than just addressing pain. It focuses on how the body moves as a whole.

At Adjust NRV, we assess areas such as:

  • Spinal and joint mobility

  • Range of motion

  • Movement patterns

  • Muscle and joint function

  • Areas of discomfort or restriction

  • How different parts of the body work together during movement

It’s important to remember that an adjustment isn't a shortcut around training. You still have to put in the work.

You still have to train your cardiovascular system.

You still have to strengthen your muscles.

You still have to recover.

And you still have to show up.

Chiropractic care can simply be one piece of the bigger picture.

One Step at a Time

Reaching the top of a stadium isn't accomplished in one giant leap.

It's one step.

Then another.

And another.

That same principle applies to many of the goals we set for ourselves.

Maybe your goal is to run the Lane Stadium stairs without stopping. Maybe it's getting back to hiking with your family. Maybe it's being able to garden, exercise, play with your kids, or simply move through your day with less discomfort.

Whatever your goal may be, progress often happens through small, consistent efforts.

Regular movement.
Appropriate training.
Adequate recovery.
Good nutrition and hydration.
And taking care of your body along the way.

At Adjust NRV, we believe chiropractic care should support your goals and your lifestyle, rather than simply focusing on a single symptom.

What’s Waiting at the Top?

There's something rewarding about reaching the top of a challenge you once wondered if you could complete.

Maybe it's the view.

Maybe it's the accomplishment.

Maybe it's knowing that you didn't quit when things got difficult.

And sometimes, the biggest milestone isn't actually reaching the top.

It's realizing how far you've come.

Whether you're training for the Lane Stadium stairs, preparing for your next hike, returning to your favorite activity, or simply working toward moving more comfortably, your body deserves care along the way.

The goal isn't just to reach the top. It's to build a body that can keep taking you there.
