From Chronic Pain to Hiking the Cascades: A Patient’s Journey Back to the Things She Loves

For many people, health and wellness aren't about achieving a perfect number on a scale or checking off a list of fitness goals. Sometimes, it's simply about being able to do the things you love with the people you love.

For one Adjust NRV patient, that meant being able to hike and explore the outdoors with her family again.

“I wasn’t going to give up.”

Walking and hiking have always been an important part of her family’s life. But over time, chronic pain in her back and knee began making those activities increasingly difficult.

“I have always enjoyed walking and hiking together as a family,” she shared. “My back and my knee would always give me trouble when we would go on these hikes.”

The pain wasn't limited to hiking. It began affecting her everyday life and her ability to participate in the activities she enjoyed, including gardening and spending time with her family.

After seeing multiple healthcare providers, she began to feel like she had exhausted her options.

But she wasn't ready to give up.

“I decided that I wasn’t going to give up, because you can’t give up when you have chronic pain.”

Finding Adjust NRV

Her path to Adjust NRV began with a conversation with her dental hygienist. After sharing how much pain she had been experiencing, her hygienist recommended that she visit Dr. Brooke.

From her very first appointment, she felt that she had found something different.

“I was impressed and excited to start chiropractic care, and he took the time to explain what was going on,” she said. “He seemed genuine and like he actually wanted to improve my quality of life.”

One part of her initial evaluation that particularly stood out was the bilateral weight scale assessment. She already knew she was experiencing pain, but seeing measurable differences in how her body was distributing weight gave her another perspective.

“I knew I was in pain, but now I could see the proof on the scales that my body was struggling.”

Moving Better. Sleeping Better. Living More.

Since beginning care with Dr. Brooke, she has noticed changes that extend far beyond how she feels during an appointment.

“I am feeling better, sleeping better, and moving better in my day-to-day life.”

With improved movement, she has been able to become more active, work toward losing weight, and—most importantly—participate in life with her family again.

“I am able to do all the fun things with them.”

That includes returning to the hiking trails.

What once felt limited by pain became something she could look forward to again, including a family adventure hiking through the Cascades.

A Different Perspective on Chronic Pain

Her experience has also changed the way she thinks about chiropractic care.

She believes one of the biggest misconceptions is that chiropractic care is something you try once or twice and expect an immediate fix.

“People tend to have a misconception about chiropractic care and think that getting adjusted just once or twice will fix everything,” she explained. “But in reality, it really works better when you continue to get adjusted.”

For someone who has been living with chronic pain and has been told that they simply have to learn to live with it, she believes it's important to keep looking for options.

“Anyone who has had to live with chronic pain and has been told that you just have to live with this, there is a better option out there!”

Keep Moving. Keep Living.

Today, her motivation is simple: keep moving so she can continue experiencing life to the fullest.

“The more you can move in a natural way, the more your body will feel better,” she shared. “I want to keep moving so I can continue to live life to the fullest with my family.”

Her story is a reminder that progress isn't always about doing something extraordinary. Sometimes, it's about getting back to the ordinary moments that make life extraordinary—walking with your family, working in the garden, sleeping better, moving without fear, and saying yes to the next adventure.

At Adjust NRV, we are honored to be part of our patients' journeys toward better movement and a more active life.

Because the goal isn't simply to feel better. It's to get back to living.
