We’re passionate about helping people live their best lives as we inspire them toward better health. That’s why September was such an exciting month for us: Dr. Brooke and Tess were recently featured on WDBJ7’s Here @ Home segment, which gave them a special opportunity to share their heart with our community! They spoke about our chiropractic practice, our love for the Virginia Tech community, and the story behind a very special new addition to our office—the Exit Light Hokie Bird.
Rooted in Blacksburg, Inspired by Virginia Tech
Our practice is so proud to call the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center home, which lets us serve Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford and more in a convenient way (hello, easy parking!). Not only that, but Dr. Brooke and his wife Tess have called the Blacksburg community home for 16 years. During that time, Blacksburg has become much more than just where they work—it’s where they now have deep roots and some of their best friends. They have a beautiful life here and without question a love for cheering on the Hokies! Whether it’s attending football games, supporting the arts, or joining in community events, the Virginia Tech spirit is woven into their lives. This is what prompted the Exit Light Hokie Bird and ultimately brought them to the afternoon show with WDBJ7.
Meet the Exit Light Hokie Bird
If you’ve ever stood in Lane Stadium as “Enter Sandman” plays, you know the unmatched energy, unity, and excitement that moment creates. Hokie Nation is incredible and as we all jump together - we feel it. Dr. Brook and Tess wanted to capture that Hokie Nation pride and create a Hokie Bird concept that created excitement and joy in everyone who sees it. That’s how the Exit Light Hokie Bird came to life.
Over the summer, Dr. Brooke and Tess worked side by side to design and hand-paint the statue. Little by little, brush by brush, their vision came to life.
A Hit With the Community
The bird’s big debut came during our End-of-Summer bash. With live music, great food, and plenty of Hokie spirit, the statue was unveiled—and quickly became the star of the show. Our guests lined up for selfies, laughter filled the air, and it became clear: this Hokie Bird was made to bring people together.
This is just the beginning! We plan to keep the Exit Light Hokie Bird mobile so it can travel with us to tailgates, local events, and community gatherings. We can’t wait to see it spark more smiles, selfies, and moments of joy across Blacksburg and beyond.
Connected to Our Just Cause
At its heart, this project is about more than art. As Dr. Brooke shared in the interview, “Being a chiropractor is about more than adjustments and treatments—it’s about helping people live joyful, expressive, and adventurous lives.” The Exit Light Hokie Bird embodies that spirit. It’s a reminder that the big picture of health is about connection, community, and creating experiences that make life fuller.
We’re so grateful for the opportunity to share this story with WDBJ7 and our community. To everyone who’s already snapped a selfie or joined us in celebration—thank you. Together, we’re building something more than just a chiropractic practice. We’re building a movement that inspires others, near and far, toward better health.
